Summer is branded as a time of relaxation, a time to do nothing and enjoy the peace of life. That’s what my family told me when I announced that I would be starting a remote internship. Yet, I decided to pursue it anyway, believing this internship as a way to help my future career.

So, starting in July, I began this remote internship, working from, Morocco. My family decided to travel for a month to the country, visiting relatives, friends, and different cities. They told me I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the work, but I came to love the work.

The way that this company is structured, it's completely possible. The use of agile flow allows for one to work when they can, there is no set hour that I have to be available online, and its never like I have to be sitting at my computer from 9-5 every single day. No, instead I have the freedom to work when I can, whether it's in my hotel room, while I’m on a train, or when I have nothing else to do. Through this, I have been swimming in Tangier, walking through the streets of Casablanca, enjoying late night dinners with my family, all while sustaining an internship.

"I learned how to adapt my schedule with theirs and sync up in an Agile environemnt. Before I started, I didn't even know what Agile was" ​ "When I first started, I was nervous and I would show up at specific times to match the US Eastern Time Zone schedule" ​ "After a few weeks of really understanding Agile on a deep level, I realized that my project management and staying on top of my tasks was more important than an arbitrary clock or time zone." "I used this newfound knowledge to do work on my own time & communicate with my team exclusively through the project management system. It opened up flexibility for me to spend time with my family and really enjoy my travels all around Morocco all while keeping my team happy with my progress." ​ "then, the moments our team came together for collaboration were much more magical because they were few & far between. We were actually excited to talk with each other and share the progress we were doing." ​ "Also, since I worked with so many people from around the world, it was so cool to wake up and see various parts of the project getting completed all while I was sleeping! That was a new concept for me. So, we essentially tossed the project back and forth to each other around the time zones until it was completed. " ​ "this really got rid of writer's block, because I knew that anything I contributed would be picked up by the next time zone as they felt refreshed & ready for work for the day. Such a cool concept. Then, keeping everything together in the Office 365 environment is a nice touch the business allows us to do. It felt casual, yet organized and professional all at the same time."
